OpenCL support has been added to LibreOffice Calc to greatly accelerate spreadsheet calculations! Now application users can experience GPU acceleration without programming. LibreOffice is a free and open source office suite developed by The Document Foundation. It contains popular office applications such as Writer (a word processor), Calc (for spreadsheets), Impress (for presentations), Draw (avector graphics editor), Math (for mathematical notation), Base (a database) and more. LibreOffice runs on popular operating systems such as Linux, Windows, and OSX and common file formats such as those used in Microsoft Office.
It will be interesting to see both the adoption of OpenCL acceleration (although one must currently turn it on as it is off by default) and performance comparisons between the major vendors.
Libreoffice Enable Hardware Acceleration

Presentation demonstration hangs only with enabled hardware acceleration option. Noticed on x86 and amd64 systems (Intel and NVIDIA graphics) (slackware-current with KDE SC 4.10.2) It happen with any presentations. It's confirmed by Eric 'AlienBOB' Hameleers. It started with LibreOffice 4.0.0 and as mentioned in the blog, Slackware updated. I know I'm a little late to the train, but I've been trying to solve this unresponsive UI issue with my own LibreOffice install, albeit on Linux. I finally found the culprit: anti-aliasing. Turning it off (even with Hardware acceleration on) made the interface much snappier. I'm not sure why id tan bog down the UI so much, but there you go. /.config/libreoffice You can also test if enabling/disabling hardware acceleration makes a difference, as well as the use of You should close the program and start it again to see what gives. Those among you who remember font tweaks, specific font changes for the interface are no longer possible as.
Libreoffice Hardware Acceleration Greyed Out
The following video shows the potential for fast spreadsheets due to GPU acceleration. (Unfortunately, the Intel GPU tested is not a high-end one like the Iris 5200.)
